Here is the quintessential hot rod. This gorgeous 1932 Ford roadster combines the iconic look of a Deuce highboy with proper craftsmanship and quality parts. From the brilliant red paint to the fuel injected Ram Jet crate engine, this is the type of car that gets noticed wherever it goes. But in addition, this one also has a comfortable ride and a roomy interior that make it a car you can actually drive and enjoy.
This custom-built roadster is titled as a 1932 Ford and has seen just under 5k miles since new. It features a fiberglass body with a steel hood and side panels on a steel frame. The hood can be opened from either side or can be removed completely, as can the side panels. The brilliant red paint really makes this car stand out along with the DuVall swept windshield and Moon aluminum fuel tank. The 1950 Pontiac taillights are a nice touch as are the magnesium-look wheels. There is plenty of chrome in the suspension, steering, bumpers, front axle, and headlight buckets. I like how the slim front turn signals are integrated into the bumper.
The drivetrain uses a fuel-injected Chevrolet 350ci Ram Jet crate engine. This setup captures the look of an old Rochester mechanical fuelie unit but with modern electronics throughout. It is rated at 345 horsepower and 396 foot-pounds out of the box. Features include Vortec heads and a hydraulic roller camshaft. The transmission is a TH350 automatic with an external cooler while the rear end is a Ford 9” unit. This is a well-proven recipe for any street car, and is especially potent in such a lightweight street rod.
The front suspension is a uses a 4-bar setup with a drop front axle on a transverse spring, while the rear has a 4-link arrangement with Panhard bar and adjustable coilovers. The steering is a traditional drag link setup. Note the use of chrome plating throughout! The power brakes use front discs and rear drums with a proportioning valve. The primary fuel tank is out back while the Moon unit in front is part of the return system. Additional features include an electric cooling fan and full dual exhaust with headers.
The custom tan interior has a very clean look. It also offers more space than most any street rod we’ve had and has a tilt column too, making it easy for anyone get in and out. The seat is quite comfortable as well and has dual lap belts. The center gauge cluster and driver side tach have a nostalgic look while the Pioneer Bluetooth stereo is a modern touch. Note this car does not have a top or windshield wipers, so it is not well suited for the rain. It does have a horn, turn signals, and a parking brake. The trunk has an electric operator and is fully finished.
The ’32 Ford is one of the most popular hot rods in the world, and for good reason. It not only has great lines but also represents the dawn of an era, when V8 power and the phrase “hot rod” began to take hold. This attractive example puts that together in a reliable package that really is fun to drive. It will also get you more smiles and thumbs up than most anything on the road.
